After just three months at Sika Liquid Plastics, organising and co-ordinating a conference for 170 delegates was a big day for me.

And so it should have been; after all, we were celebrating three decades of pioneering in the UK with the 30th anniversary of Decothane as well as looking forward to future innovation with our Quality Assured (QA) contractors.

The QA contractors joined us for a full day and evening itinerary at The Belfry in Birmingham, a venue that was chosen for its central location.  We were joined by famous explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and Jazz trio, ‘Ain’t That Jazz’, making the event fun and inspirational too.

Charlotte Hilton, Marketing Executive at Sika Liquid Plastics

Once the employees completed their presentations on Sika Liquid Plastics’ key initiatives and developments, our pioneering keynote speaker, Sir Ranulph Fiennes stepped up to share his extraordinary stories with wit and charisma. He also shared some striking images of his fascinating life as an adventurer and explorer with delegates, leaving a lasting impression on us all with his tales of how he overcame adversity and seemingly insurmountable challenges with courage and determination.

More tales of how challenges have been met followed the dinner with an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievement of our QA Contractors and the variety of projects that have used Sika Liquid Plastics products over the past year.

The awards included the results of a live vote held during the conference in which delegates voted for Orchard Roofing & Buildings’ work at Stamford Railway for the under 1000m2 Project of the Year Award, supported by the LRWA, while Ice Roofing’s All Saints’ Academy job won the vote for the over 1000m2 Project of the Year category, sponsored by Latchways.

Designed Roof Systems’ Cunard Building project was honoured with the Applications Department’s Project of the Year Award (sponsored by SFS Intec), which recognises a project for its outstanding application quality.  The winner was selected from nominations made by our Field Technicians, which had been whittled down to a shortlist of just three before the event. Proseal Smith Roofing was also recognised by the Applications Department as ‘Applicator of the Year’ (sponsored by White Sales).

Arguably the most important award of all, the last accolade handed out on the night was the Kingspan-sponsored ‘Outstanding Contribution to Quality Award’, which went to Liquid Roofing Ltd. The award looks at all elements of quality, including application, project management, office audit, financial background and overall customer service. All QA Contractors were considered for the award and assessed by our panel before a final winner was agreed.

Canadian comedian, Sean Collins, rounded off the evening’s entertainment with a hilarious set that even included some roof-related gags!

He didn’t manage to get the last word in, however, because tweets from both our team and delegates were posted on our live Tweet wall using the hashtag #DecothaneTurns30 throughout the evening.

It was brilliant to see such engagement on social media from delegates because digital and social media is a key initiative for us this year and something I’m passionately keen to encourage across the company and our QA Contractor network. I’ve been running workshops for customers to help them enhance their skills online and it was great to see so many of them actively putting their new skills into action at the conference.

All in all it was a fantastic day. We can’t thank our QA contractors enough for such an excellent turn out and genuine engagement throughout the day and the evening. From the feedback we’ve received, it would seem that delegates enjoyed it just as much as we did and we hope it has reiterated our appreciation of their participation in the QA Contractor Programme.
